A live-action series of Final Fantasy XIV has been announced by Sony Pictures Television and Hivemind, the studios behind The Expanse and the upcoming Netflix The Witcher show.
The Final Fantasy XIV live action TV show is said to be “inspired directly by the world and characters of the title’s fourteenth instalment”. However, not much else was given such as where the show will take place in regards to the ongoing MMO’s setting.
According to the press release, this “one-of-a-kind” live-action adaption will tell an original story set in the fantastic world of Eorzea. It will feature a mixture of magitek and beastmen, airships and chocobos and include a live-action debut of Cid.

Final Fantasy XIV is about to receive its new expansion, Shadowbringers, on 2 July 2019 which will come with new jobs, AI party features and gameplay overhauls. This is now the third major expansion in the ever-growing MMORPG. With the series being so big and the potential to take on any one of its many stories, a live-action Final Fantasy XIV TV show does not sound so bad at all.
Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, and Dinesh Shamdasani of Hivemind will serve as Executive Producers on the series. Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton (WINTER’S KNIGHT, THE WELLS INITIATIVE) have been commissioned to write for the series and will also serve as Executive Producers.
