Development on Final Fantasy XVI has “turned the corner and entered the home stretch”, according to producer Naoki Yoshida. Yesterday, Square Enix released a brand new trailer for the game titled ‘Ambition’, which showed off more of the game’s central kingdoms and epic battles involving Summons (or Eikons). The anticipated JRPG is scheduled to launch in summer 2023 exclusively for PS5.
Yoshida posted a message shortly after the latest trailer, stating that the team wanted to focus on expanding the world and exploring the “rich cast of characters” in Final Fantasy XVI. We got a good look at the gorgeous kingdoms from the game as well as its leaders and conflicting ideologies regarding the Dominants and their status in the world. Dominants are humans born with the special ability to harness the power of Eikons, though they’re seen in different lights depending on which kingdom you’re in.

Yoshida’s full message on the development of Final Fantasy XVI reads:
“With regards to development, the team has turned the corner and entered the home stretch, and is currently concentrating its efforts on debugging, tweaking, polishing, and optimisation. As for promotion, over the next few weeks, myself, Main Director Hiroshi Takai, Creative Director Kazutoyo Maehiro, and Localisation Director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox will be taking part in interviews with multiple media outlets from across the globe to bring you even more information, so make sure you keep your eyes out for those out as well.”
In a separate statement, the game’s director Hiroshi Takai stated:
“As the game edges closer to completion, the team has turned its full attention to debugging and final adjustments. Now that things are starting to come together, the game is sizing up to be something truly special. We know you are all hungry to see more, but for now we hope that this little peek into the world of Final Fantasy XVI is enough to keep you both satisfied and (of course) speculating until our next big reveal.”
