Pre-orders for the upcoming Square Enix JRPG, Final Fantasy XVI, will reportedly go live next month, either on 7 or 8 December. According to a new report by Insider Gaming, the pre-orders will open alongside a new trailer. It may or may not arrive at The Game Awards, which is set to take place on 8 December, though the timing seems to fit.
Insider Gaming says Final Fantasy XVI pre-orders will kick off on 7 or 8 December, though didn’t land on a specific date. It’s possible that Sony might host its own dedicated State of Play event a day before The Game Awards. That would make sense as the game is a PS5 exclusive (at least for six months) and it’s certainly one of PlayStation’s most anticipated games next year besides Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which may also benefit from a State of Play showcase before the year closes.
The official website for Final Fantasy XVI describes its world:
“The land of Valisthea is studded with Mothercrystals—glittering mountains of crystal that tower over the realms around them, blessing them with aether. For generations, people have flocked to these beacons to take advantage of their blessing, using the aether to conjure magicks that let them live lives of comfort and plenty. Great powers have grown up around each Mothercrystal, and an uneasy peace has long reigned between them. Yet now the peace falters as the spread of the Blight threatens to destroy their dominions.”
As with all reports, take this with a pinch of salt for now. As far as we know, Final Fantasy XVI is scheduled to release in the summer of 2023. Pre-orders going live usually means that the company has landed on a release date, meaning the game is not too far off from release now. Developer Creative Business Unit III believes that development is in the final stretch and we should start seeing more about the game in the coming months.
Final Fantasy XVI releases in 2023 exclusively for PS5.
