Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida is attempting to subdue a tsunami by asking PC players not to create ‘offensive or inappropriate’ mods for the PC release of the game today. The modding scene for Final Fantasy is filled with plenty of excellent mods but you also get your risqué assortment of creations, if you know what we mean.
Speaking to PC Gamer, Yoshida and Final Fantasy XVI game director Hiroshi Takai were asked would kind of goofy mods they’d like to see in Final Fantasy XVI once it launches on PC. Before Takai could give a response, Yoshida chipped in and urged players not to create or install inappropriate mods for the game. Good luck with that.
Yoshida’s full response reads:
“If we said, ‘It’d be great if someone made XYZ,’ it might come across as a request, so I’ll avoid mentioning any specifics here. The only thing I will say is that we definitely don’t want to say anything offensive or inappropriate, so please don’t make or install anything like that.”
As of writing, Final Fantasy VII Remake offers over a thousand mods on Nexus Mods. Going to the most popular mods of all time for the game, you’ll quickly discover a handful of mods that make characters like Tifa, Aerith and even Cloud wear skimpy outfits or even appear completely nude. Most of the time, mods can help improve the gameplay and visuals, fix performance issues that the developers didn’t notice or add new weapons to the game, though there seems to be a market for the other variety too.
A similar fate awaits Final Fantasy XVI and it won’t be long before we start seeing those kinds of mods make their way online. You can probably expect to see Clive, Cid and Jill in revealing outfits very soon after the game’s release on PC too.
Final Fantasy XVI is available today on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
