Final Fantasy XVI Previews Combat Eikon Battles

Final Fantasy XVI Teased For Nintendo Switch 2

Earlier this month, Square Enix shadow dropped Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox Series X/S after initially releasing on PS5 in 2023 and PC in 2024. However, the publisher isn’t quite done releasing the game on more platforms as series producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida recently teased that we might see it get ported over to Nintendo Switch 2 as well.

As spotted by ResetEra, Yoshida spoke during a livestream on Friday where he discussed the Xbox port of Final Fantasy XVI before dropping the comment, “it’s just Nintendo left.” This suggests that Square Enix has plans to bring the action-RPG over to the Nintendo Switch 2 at some point as well. The company already confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will make the jump to Switch 2 as well as Xbox platforms.

The description for Final Fantasy XVI reads:

“The first fully fledged Action RPG in the mainline Final Fantasy series. An epic dark fantasy world where the fate of the land is decided by the mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title ‘First Shield of Rosaria’ and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the dominant of the Phoenix. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.”

Back in May 2024, Square Enix confirmed that it was moving towards making its AAA games multiplatform going forward. Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XVI initially launched as PlayStation exclusives, which the publisher pinned as a reason for sales failing to meet its expectations. In fact, Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy producer Yoshinori Kitase said part 3 will not be exclusive to PS6 when it launches.

Final Fantasy XVI is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
