Final Fantasy XVI, the highly anticipated action-RPG from Square Enix, is finally out today and fans are preparing to sink a large amount of time into the title. As for just how much side content will be included in the game, Square Enix recently confirmed that the game will feature around 100 side quests to tackle outside of the main storyline.
Speaking to Famitsu during a recent interview (via PlayStation Universe), Final Fantasy XVI creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro stated that “there are 100 side quests in total” in the game, though didn’t go into any further details. It’s unclear how long these side quests will take to tackle individually though judging by early reviews and impressions, they aren’t as time-consuming as the main quests and can usually be completed while on the go in the world.

Shortly before the review embargo dropped, Famitsu revealed that Final Fantasy XVI earned a near-perfect score of 39/40, making it one of the few games in the Japanese magazine’s history to receive such a high score. It also seems to be warranted as the game’s current average score on OpenCritic sits at 91 on the Top Critic Average with 95% of critics recommending it.
In related news, Square Enix and developer Creative Business Unit III recently confirmed that it had plans to develop a PC port of the game though it will take some time as the studio didn’t have enough time to properly optimise it for PC. A small day-one patch will also be available at launch that optimises the game’s performance on PS5 as well as provides fixes for some text errors. You can read the full patch notes here.
If you’re planning on grabbing the Platinum trophy for Final Fantasy XVI, be prepared to beat the game’s challenging Final Fantasy Mode which is a requirement to get the top achievement.
Final Fantasy XVI is currently available on PS5.
