The good news doesn’t end there. There’s also a Sea of Stars demo available now on all platforms including PS4, PS5 and Xbox. So you can test the game out ahead of next month’s release.
There’s been a lot of anticipation surrounding Sea of Stars. Firstly, the game is a prequel to The Messenger – a platforming action game released back in 2018. It featured a Metroidvania gameplay style where players would scroll through stages performing jumps and attacks. Sea of Stars, while being a prequel has taken a drastically different approach in gameplay.
The game aims to bring back retro, turn-based RPG gameplay and if anything, looks very similar to the likes of Breath of Fire. Players will explore a large world as they chase down and fight an alchemist. The game stars two main characters, Valere and Zale as they use the power of the sun and moon to fight in battle.
Originally launched as a Kickstarter back in 2020, Sea of Stars didn’t take long to achieve its goal and kicked off full production shortly after. The team at Sabotage Studio also got Yasunori Mitsuda to compose the soundtrack for Sea of Stars. Mitsuda san worked on games including Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger – two games which inspired Sea of Stars.
The demo, which you can download now, takes place in a spoiler-free section of the game. According to the studio, it showcases just enough of the gameplay to reveal the dungeon-crawling mechanics and traversal.
