First Borderlands 4 Gameplay to Debut at The Game Awards This Week

The first gameplay for Borderlands 4, the upcoming sequel from Gearbox Software, is set to debut at The Game Awards this week. The game was announced back in August with a short teaser trailer. We’ve only been drip-fed information on the game since then, though it looks like fans won’t have to wait long to see the title in action.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed on Twitter/X that Borderlands 4 will appear at The Game Awards on Thursday with the first look at some gameplay in its next trailer. The new footage will also feature an original cinematic sequence “depicting a moment that occurs about half way between the end of Borderlands 3 and the beginning of Borderlands 4.” As previous reports suggested, the fourth game seems to pick up right where the ending of Borderlands 3 left off.

“Yes, there is gameplay in the trailer!” said Pitchford on X. “Also, in addition to a lot of in-game footage, I will share a sick, never-before-seen original cinematic sequence depicting a moment that occurs about half way between the end of Borderlands 3 and the beginning of Borderlands 4. I am excite!”

In related news, Gearbox Software previously revealed that Borderlands 4 will feature a villain that’s “far more dangerous than Handsome Jack“, the menacing and memorable antagonist of Borderlands 2. Hopefully the new trailer that will debut at The Game Awards this week sheds some light on this mystery villain. In addition to a new foe, Gearbox also confirmed that the game will feature four new Vault Hunters.
