First PlayStation VR2 Photos Spotted in The Wild

The PlayStation VR2 headset is this year’s big tech release. While Sony hasn’t announced an exact release date yet, we do know that the company will ship this next-gen VR device by the end of the year. Of course, while we have seen loads of rendered photos and in-game footage, we haven’t seen the actual headset in the flesh until now.

Someone who got their hands on the PlayStation VR2 headset didn’t care much about the NDA or embargo agreement they had with Sony and wasted no time snapping up photos of the device to upload to Twitter. The photo shows off the headset along with the PlayStation VR Controller sitting on a chair with a bag of cables.

By the look of things, this seems to be the entire PS VR 2 package. The headset will reportedly launch with two PlayStation VR controllers and the bags might contain the charging cables for the device. Unlike the original PS VR headset, this device won’t make use of a processing unit so the cable set-up is going to be a lot less messy. You’ll simply plug the headset into the PS5 and play your games. If anything, this photo might be from an early retail unit sent out for testing.

The photo was shared by an indie studio named BitPlanetGames. There’s no doubt that Sony has been sending PlayStation VR2 units to studios around the world to work on games and content for the hardware. This indie studio seemingly uploaded the photo without permission. Mistakes happen though.

We don’t what Sony has in store for gamers when it comes to the PlayStation VR2 launch this year. We know that the company is working on multiple exclusive titles including Horizon Call of the Mountain. However, we don’t know the exact release date or pricing for PS VR2 yet.
