Saints Row Expansion Heist and The Hazardous 9 May

First Saints Row Expansion ‘The Heist and The Hazardous’ Launches 9 May

The first of three planned expansions for 2022’s Saints Row, titled The Heist and The Hazardous, is set to launch on 9 May 2023 for consoles and PC. The expansion will arrive alongside the big Sunshine Springs district update that promises to overhaul the game’s combat system and introduce many enticing features that might bring back veteran Saints Row fans.

The Saints Row reboot launched last year to a mostly mixed reception with many feeling that it failed to capture the spirit and tone of the previous games in the franchise. The open-world was also described as empty and lacking excitement, leading many to abandon the game and all hope for a series revival. Developer Volition believes it may still be able to sway fans into giving the reboot another chance with its new expansions that promise a whacky return to form.

“When obnoxious movie star Chris Hardy double-crosses the Boss on a successful assassination hit, the Saints take sweet revenge,” reads the description on the first Saints Row expansion, The Heist and The Hazardous. The expansion will become available on 9 May to players who purchased the expansion pass. However, the Sunshine Springs district will also be added on the same day as a free update, bringing massive changes to Saints Row‘s combat and more.

For those still playing Saints Row, you can expect more free updates to roll out over the next few months alongside the paid expansions. Volition and Embracer Group originally reported that the game was a commercial flop upon release, though no exact numbers were shared. Hopefully these new updates and expansions will shed a more positive light on the reboot.

That said, the future of the Saints Row franchise is still uncertain. Beyond the reboot, it’s not yet known if Volition will continue the series or abandon it altogether. Valuable lessons have probably been learnt since its failed launch so fans are optimistic that it will bounce back.

Saints Row is currently available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
