The Game Awards 2024 is set to take place this week Thursday (or the early hours of Friday morning for South Africans), promising the last major gaming event of the year typically filled with awards-giving and announcements. This year, there’s no shortage of games that could potentially be revealed at the show – at least with all the rumours that have surfaced this year. Here are five game reveals that we hope to see at the event.
Before we proceed, make sure you check out all the nominations for this year’s The Game Awards including the competitive Game of the Year category. The list for game reveals below is in no particular order. We’ve also tried to keep it to games that haven’t already been revealed or teased in some way before, though there are a couple of exceptions.
Five Game Reveals We Hope to See at The Game Awards 2024
Resident Evil 9
This might be a long shot as Capcom is all hands on deck for Monster Hunter Wilds at the moment, so we may end up seeing Resident Evil 9 revealed later next year as well. However, The Game Awards is a pretty big stage to make such an announcement if Capcom wants to get a head start on the hype train. The more likely scenario will be another big trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds but if we had to make another wish, we’d double-dip on two major Capcom reveals at the event.
Project 007
Hitman developer IO Interactive has been hard at work on Project 007, the studio’s take on James Bond – and might we add, there’s no gaming studio better suited for the job. We’ve heard quite a bit about it so it’s time that IO Interactive blows the lid open on a full reveal for the game. This one seems more likely to happen than most games on this list too.
Dark Souls 3 Remaster
Rumours of a possible remaster of Dark Souls 3 surfaced last month, so this reveal could be fresh off the press. Since we already have Dark Souls Remastered and Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, a remaster of the third game seems overdue and makes sense. However, there’s no strong evidence that this remaster is actually in the works but it sounds pretty enticing nonetheless and we hope that Bandai Namco has this surprise locked and loaded for The Game Awards. On that note…
From Software’s Next Game
This is one hell of a wild card but given the timing, it seems right for From Software to unveil its next game. It’s not completely unfounded either. If you recall back in 2017, From Software used The Game Awards to tease Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. According to previous reports, the studio is currently working on multiple projects and we assume some of them have been in development since 2022 or even earlier. We’ll have to wait and see if this pans out.
Persona 6
Another wild card guess but one that makes a little more sense than From Software’s next game. There’s been so many leaks and rumours about Persona 6 at this point, it’s hard to really pin down the truth. A good lead we previously reported on claimed that the game would release in 2025, so a reveal at The Game Awards could be on the table. On the other hand, there’s also whispers of that other Persona 5 spin-off game making an appearance at the show, so who knows. Atlus’ focus might also be on Metaphor: ReFantazio during the show, which is one of the top contenders in the nominations race.
Bonus – Hollow Knight: Silksong
Haha!
