The official teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has arrived shortly after it leaked online in an unfinished state. The movie will be based on the best-selling indie horror games from developer Scott Cawthon that exploded into popularity in the mid-2010s, following a night security guard as he deals with bizarre animatronics that have mysteriously come to life.
As expected of a teaser trailer, it doesn’t show much but we do get our first glimpses of Josh Hutcherson as protagonist Mike Schmidt as well as Scream actor Matthew Lillard as William Afton, the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment and potential villain of the movie. The animatronics are also briefly featured in the trailer, showing menacing glowing eyes as they stalk Mike and a young girl, presumed to be Mike’s little sister.

We don’t have a official description of the plot for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie yet so it’s all left up to speculation at this point. Most fans have noticed that it’s not exactly a faithful retelling of the first game (with some shots that don’t seem to be linked to any game in the series), so it will be interesting to see which direction the live-action adaptation takes.
The mainline series of the Five Nights at Freddy’s games spans eight entries and some spin-offs. Most games revolve around players sitting at a security desk and interacting with controls like the power and doors in order to keep out the lurking animatronics by tracking their movements on security cameras. Players must essentially survive each night until 6AM. While some are definitely better than others, each game brings something unique to the indie horror space.
