Former Xbox Executive, Mike Ybarra, Joins Blizzard Entertainment

Earlier this month, we reported that the Xbox Corporate Vice President and one of the most recognizable faces of Xbox, Mike Ybarra, has left Microsoft after 20 years of service in various positions at the company. At the time we didn’t know exactly where he would go, but he did say he would remain in the industry and said that he is “super excited” for what’s next. Now, Mike Ybarra has revealed that he will be joining Blizzard Entertainment.

Blizzard Entertainment has been under fire recently from fans about the whole Hearthstone player Ng Wai “Blitzchun” Chung incident where the player expressed his political opinion about the Hong Kong protests in a tournament hosted by the developer, which resulted in a ban for the player. Activision Blizzard was even sent a letter by five U.S. members of the congress and you can read about it all here.

Now, Mike Ybarra is stepping in as the Exec. Vice President and GM starting 4 November 2019, but also revealed that he will be at BlizzCon 2019, where Blizzard Entertainment is expected to make a number of big announcements, including Diablo 4.


Mike Ybarra oversaw Xbox Life, Xbox Game Pass and Mixer since 2017 and has held various positions within Microsoft and has been a recognizable face in the company for Xbox fans out there. Stepping into a massive company like Blizzard Entertainment amidst all the things going on is no doubt challenging, but Mike Ybarra seems very confident and excited for the future, maybe he has played some of Blizzard’s unannounced titles to be revealed at BlizzCon 2019?
