Epic Games has delayed the end of the current Fortnite season along with the start of the next season due to the ongoing George Floyd protests. This marks the third delay to hit the game in recent weeks. The Fortnite in-game event titled “The Device” will now take place on 15 June 2020. In addition, the new Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 event will begin on 17 June 2020.

In a blog post, Epic Games explained that the delay has been put in place to allow the team at Epic to focus on themselves, their friends and families.

We’re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing. We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics. The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities.”

This marks the third delay for the current season. The first delay took place in April followed by a delay last week. Fortnite “The Device” event will see the current “spy” season come to a close. Very little is known about the Fornite Chapter 2 Season 3 event kicking off on 17 June. However, Epic Games will reveal more closer to the time.

The Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 delay comes as no surprise. Gaming and tech events have been delayed across the board including the PS5 event meant to take place later today. EA postponed its Madden 21 showcase, Google delayed its Android event and even CD Projekt Red moved the Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire stream up.
