Epic Games is building a whole new way for gamers to become creators in Fortnite thanks to its new Unreal Editor. Currently, in beta, the Unreal Editor for Fortnite allows gamers and creators to build workable games and publish them directly in the new Creator Economy 2.0.
Epic Games says that the Unreal Editor for Fortnite is a new PC application which works alongside Fortnite’s existing Creative toolset so creators can develop content for both PC and consoles. In addition, everything they build can be tested in real-time.

If you become an eligible island publisher, you’ll be able to make money off of your creations by using the new creator economy. Based on your creation’s popularity and retention rate, Epic will pay you for work.
The company says that it will put 40% of the net revenue from Fortnite’s Item Shop and in-game purchases into the engagement pool and make payouts to creators on a monthly basis.
“Epic builds and sells Fortnite cosmetics, often working with third-party IP owners to bring their work into Fortnite. Starting March 1, 2023, Epic began reserving 40% of that revenue to distribute it based on the engagement created by eligible island publishers’ creative work, both yours and Epic’s. In this way, Epic will further reward creators for their creative work in Fortnite. Epic’s existing Support-A-Creator program that underpinned Creator Economy 1.0 remains, but is returning to its roots as an affiliate marketing program for streamers and social media content creators.”
Epic released some demos of the creations possible using the new Unreal Editor for Fortnite. The three demos are available in the editor now as well as available to play in Fortnite itself. They include Deserted: Domination, Forest Guardian, and The Space Inside. You can watch a video of them in action below or find them in Epic’s Picks Discover row in Fortnite.
