Epic Games first introduced the Fortnite Halloween event with update 1.8 in October last year. It’s that time again as Fortnitemares kicks off tomorrow. In other Fortnite news, Elon Musk is poking fun at the “Fortnite deleted” rumour, and Epic announced that the player-versus-environment mode, “Save the World” will not follow its battle royale mode to go free-to-play just yet.

Halloween is traditionally celebrated on October 31, but the Fortnite Halloween event kicks off on Wednesday, 24 October at 6 am. Epic has been teasing us with the news via Twitter with pictures and rhymes.

Epic tweeted a total of three images which all seem related somehow. The third was of a shackled Cube with the words, “Tombstones quake, Keep your finger steady. The circle will close, Better be ready.” The cube resembles the consumable that was released with Season 6, so my guess is that one of the “spooky rewards” for completing Fortnitemares challenges is a new outfit, possibly a Zombie Cowboy.

The Fortnitemares tagline is “Darkness has risen,” which is again the same as Season six. Fortnitemares comes to an end on Monday, November 27 at 7 pm just as Season 6 starts to wind down. Looking at the Fornitemares teases and the Season 6 pointers, I think it’s safe to assume that the event will roll out for Save the World and Battle Royale.

It is also very possible that Fortnitemares will do something to the floating island and cube in the sky. The whole of Season 6 has been a little “nightmarish” so I hope we see an epic conclusion.

Yesterday, Epic Games announced that the PvE mode, “Save the World” would not go free-to-play this year, but instead, in 2019.

Save the World has grown consistently since our launch in July 2017 and Fortnite overall has experienced unprecedented growth. Scaling up for the legions of player heroes who will be joining the fight is key to providing an excellent experience. This applies to all of our players, old and new, so we’re taking the time to get this right.
