Ubisoft is rolling out a huge update to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla today where the studio is adding the much-anticipated roguelite DLC, Forgotten Saga. The DLC was announced back in June during the Assassin’s Creed 15th anniversary celebration event and is free for all owners of the game.
The DLC marks a new direction for the Assassin’s Creed series which has yet to attempt the roguelite genre. While Ubisoft overused the gameplay design in its Far Cry 6 DLC packs, the RPG aspect of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla should make this a memorable experience.

In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Forgotten Saga, players take on the role of Odin as he descends into Niflheim to fight the hordes of enemies that await him. For those not familiar with the game’s lore, Odin was the lead and playable character in the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Ubisoft says that in typical roguelite fashion, Forgotten Saga will see players complete various attempts at this Viking hell. After each successful arena completion, players will then have to decide which path to take. You also cannot backtrack to a previous area as the bridges connecting each arena in Niflheim break as you move forward.
As you progress through the DLC different pathways will offer different gear to find and equip. Weapons are randomised each run but armour stays the same meaning you can upgrade it and get stronger as you complete the DLC. The world is also filled with secret areas to find that hold unique enemy encounters that once defeated, unlock unique buffs for Odin to equip. Players will also run into a merchant that can sell runes, upgrades and abilities to the player. Ubisoft says the world itself offers some unique items to find and unlock so you’ll have to adopt your typical sense of exploration you’re used to from the Assassin’s Creed series.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Forgotten Saga can be completed in the end. While weapons reset and your previous weapon gets destroyed when you pick up a new one, armour and upgrades bought in the hub transfer across to your next playthrough making the task easier each time.
Players can expect the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Forgotten Saga to release today as part of a new update 1.6.0. The update will come in at between 16-25GB. It is also bringing the Sigrblot Festival to the game and also aims to fix bugs and issues.
