The wait is over. Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) is now officially free on the Epic Games Store for a limited time. Starting from tonight and ending on 21 May 2020, anyone with an Epic Games Store account can head over to the store and add the game to their library. Fans of the series will be happy to know that once you have the game, it is yours forever. This is not a trial or demo. GTA V is free.
The free game arrives after the Epic Game Store released a premature tweet regarding the mystery game. From what we understand, the announcement went live a day earlier than expected. In addition, the tweet was removed but not before people saw it.
The Epic Games Store is very, very slow right now as everyone is trying to get their free copy of the game. Please be patient. Keep in mind that users will also need to activate 2-factor authentication in order to obtain the free game. This may take some time due to the slow store.
Created by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto V is a hugely popular open-world action game featuring a robust online mode. Head over to the Epic Game Store and grab this free game right away. Be sure to share it with your friends while you are at it too.
Epic is aware of the slow store due to the influx of people. Again, please be patient.
We are currently experiencing high traffic on the Epic Games Store.
We are aware that users may be encountering slow loading times, 500 errors, or launcher crashing at this time and we are actively working to scale. We’ll provide an update as soon as we can.
