Hyper Scape is Ubisoft’s first take on the oversaturated battle royale genre but the publisher is determined to stand out. The futuristic free-to-play battle royale shooter is currently in beta on PC until 2 August 2020. After which, Hyper Scape is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC as a full launch title on 11 August 2020.
The launch marks the first time the game is playable on console. Up to now, the beta has been exclusive to PC players. In addition, the launch will introduce a new weapon, timed game modes, and a 100-tier battle pass. Ubisoft has yet to share the details on the battle pass. However, players can expect a range of skins and other cosmetic items.

Ubisoft announced Hyper Scape earlier this month during the Forward event. The game has since been a somewhat success with Twitch numbers showing some positive results. Within 30 minutes of the beta launching, it hit the top of the Twitch charts. Of course, the numbers have dropped since but the reception is positive so far.

Hyper Scape is a make or break moment for Ubisoft. The battle royale genre is overwhelmingly packed with games especially free-to-play ones. Fortnite is still the reigning champion across the board with Call of Duty Warzone following it. However, Hyper Scape does approach the gameplay a little differently. Its fast-paced gunplay and unique in-game abilities change the formula to a certain degree. Any player can use any weapon and upgrade it in every match. Players can combine two weapons together to create a more powerful gun and abilities are picked up across the map instead of being locked behind different characters.
Players can jump from any height and climb up any building which adds a great sense of traversal to the experience. Not to mention the respawn system that sees players coming back into the fight. While the overall premise is the same as most battle royale games out there, Hyper Scape may offer “just” the right amount of uniqueness to set it apart from other games.
Everyone can play this Ubisoft free-to-play battle royale on 11 August 2020 so make sure you give it a go when the time comes.
