Funko Fusion has revealed a rather unexpected crossover with the 2023 horror movie, NOPE, from director Jordan Peele. In Funko Fusion, players will be able to relive the events of the movie, assuming control of its cast as they battle against the otherworldly invader, Jean Jacket.
The NOPE collaboration was already revealed last week during San Diego Comic Con where developer 10:10 Games and Funko Inc. announced their partnership with Universal Products & Experiences. At launch, players will be able to play as the Haywoods as their quiet town becomes the host of a bizarre flying creature they call Jean Jacket (originally identified as a UFO). A new trailer has been released showing the game’s faithful recreation of the movie’s events, including the climactic final chase.
NOPE was released to critical acclaim last year and marked the third directorial outing for Get Out and Us director Jordan Peele. In a game like Funko Fusion which is definitely geared towards younger audiences – and seeing as how NOPE was an R-rated horror – it’s a bit of a strange crossover but one that 10:10 Games seems to be lovingly recreating. The NOPE experience will be available in the base game when it launches in September.
As for how extensive this content will be, it’s anyone’s guess. Funko Fusion seems to be dabbling in quite a bit of ambitious collaborations and crossovers with familiar IPs in pop culture (akin to Astro Bot or Sack Boy, for example). These will apparently include characters from Chucky, Invincible, Scott Pilgrim, Jurassic World, The Walking Dead, Five Nights at Freddy’s, M3GAN, The Thing and Shaun of the Dead. We’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out later this year.
Funko Fusion launches on 13 September 2024 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The game’s villain was revealed last week alongside pre-order incentives and physical Funko Pops. Check out the NOPE trailer below:
