Future From Software Soulslike games might not be directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. The company president and director says he wants other directors to step up and direct future Souls games as he takes a backseat. This would leave new talent with full creative control and direction.
Speaking to IGN Nordic in a recent interview, Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that he’d like to step away from a supervisory role sometime in the future in order to allow new talent and ideas to flourish. The director, who directed almost every Soulslike From Software game with the exception of Dark Souls 2, believes that bringing in new directors will be the right choice going forward. It’s unclear when Miyazaki plans to actually step down as a director.
His full response about him talking a step back from directing future From Software Souls games reads:
“I think it’s very likely that we’ll see new directors going forward. And I think if we do that, I’d like to step away from that supervisory role and give them full direction and full control over those projects. I think really this is the best way and the easiest way for them to flourish within that environment and with those new projects.”
From Software is currently working on multiple new projects including the upcoming Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, which is scheduled to release this June. Beyond that, fans believe that the acclaimed developer could be working on a new IP.
Miyazaki recently acknowledged the high fan demand for a Bloodborne remake but reiterated that the IP belongs to Sony and not From Software, so the decision is up to PlayStation in the end. On the bright side, the studio hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of an Elden Ring sequel, though nothing is planned at the moment.
