Game of Thrones Prequel ‘House of The Dragon’ Plot Revealed

HBO is casting for its Game of Thrones prequel “House of the Dragons”. The network confirmed to EW that casting for the eagerly anticipated series will attempt to fill the roles of King Viserys I, Aegon II Targaryen and others. House of the Dragons replaces HBO’s previously cancelled prequel starring Naomi Watts. The show filmed a pilot episode and was scrapped in 2019.

While there are no official casting breakdowns as of yet, fans are speculating about the potential lead characters based on the George R.R Martin book. Many believe the show will span 150 years and include the rise and fall of many leaders in Westeros. Many speculate that The Dance of The Dragons – the Targaryen Civil War which ripped apart Westeros will be showcased. Some fans suggest the series will tackle a different time period every season.

House of the Dragons is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Ryan Condal from Colony is the showrunner. He joins Game of Thrones veteran Miguel Sapochnick who was behind episodes such as “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter”. Sapochnik will direct the pilot and additional episodes. HBO claims the first season of House of the Dragons will include 10 episodes.

According to Recapped, HBO is casting for two roles. Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. The Dance of the Dragons began over a royal-succession dispute between Rhaenyra and Alicent. King Viserys I Targaryen’s first wife never gave birth to a son so he named his first daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. Thus breaking tradition and law. However, the King’s second wife gave birth to a son, Aegon II Targaryen which she handed the throne to after the King’s passing.

After Aegon II’s coronation, Rhaenyra swore to seek revenge on her mother Alicent and her rightful son and king, Aegon II. This led to the civil war known as The Dance of the Dragons.

Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragons is set to debut sometime in 2022. While we are still a while away from its release, let’s just hope it goes down better than the final season of the past show. Fans are still upset about how HBO ended the long-running series.
