With the COVID-19 pandemic gripping the world and preventing people from socializing physically, Gamescom was forced to cancel its August 2020 event. It is not the only expo to suffer this year with every planned gaming and comic expo being forced to either postpone or cancel. This includes E3 2020, Comic Cons and more. However, the organizer is still set to host a digital version of the show. The Gamescom 2020 ‘Content Hub’ will replace the planned convention and take place from 27 – 30 August 2020.

We are not sure what to expect from the digital event at the moment. However, the organizers will share more at a later date. We know that Geoff Keighley will host the opening night on 27 August 2020 as tradition. The rest of the show will include presentations from developers. There will be an ‘Awesome Indies’ showcase. In addition, the Gamescom Daily Show will showcase new announcements and reveals.
Come 30 August 2020, the Gamescom digital event will wrap up. The awards ceremony will close the show with a ‘Best of Show’ presentation.
With Gamescom taking place late in 2020, it could be seen as the perfect platform to showcase next-gen games. Up to now, we have seen dripples and drops of new reveals and they have all be pretty lacklustre. Hopefully, the organizers see the show as an opportunity to share more next-gen content as we edge closer to the holiday release for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, we can only hope.
