Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023 was held last night to kick off the annual Gamescom expo in Germany, featuring plenty of new trailers and game announcements. Sadly, host Geoff Keighley can’t seem to catch a break as yet another stage crasher invaded his show, seemingly continuing the legacy of bizarre Bill Clinton references. This time, the stage crasher wanted everyone to know that the former US president really wants to play GTA 6.
The opening moments of Gamescom Opening Night Live were quickly interrupted when someone leaped on stage during Keighley’s introduction and tried to yell into the mic, “Bill Clinton wants to play GTA 6.” The invader was quickly taken off stage by security as Keighley surprisingly kept his composure, handling the unfortunate misshap very well. He later called it “disappointing” that something like that could happen on a night meant to celebrate the industry and its developers.

This isn’t the first time that an invader managed to get on the stage of a show hosted by Keighley. Last year during The Game Awards, an individual named Matan Even, also known as the Bill Clinton kid, snuck up on stage with From Software after the developer won the Game of the Year award for Elden Ring. Even took the mic and infamously stated, “I want to nominate this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi, Bill Clinton.”
The incident repeated itself at Gamescom Opening Night Live last night with another similar stage crasher, though security was seemingly much quicker to react to the invader. Since the event, many viewers have stated that the invasion was rude and annoying instead of funny and could’ve potentially escalated to a dangerous situation if it was someone out with the intention to do harm instead of troll the audience. Hopefully, Keighley can beef up security next time and ensure the safety of the next event.
