Gears of War Collection Coming Day One to PS5 – Report

With Xbox blowing the lid open on its multiplatform strategy (something that even a former PlayStation boss champions), a new rumour suggests that a collection of Gears of War games are on the way and it will launch day one on PS5 as well as Xbox Series X/S.

The rumour comes from known leaker eXtas1s who claims that a collection of Gears of War games bundling the first three titles in the series are on the horizon. The collection will apparently launch day one on PS5, marking the first time that the Gears of War series has ever appeared on PlayStation. The leaker goes on to claim that they’re unsure if plans are also being made for a Nintendo Switch 2 port.

“I can talk about Gears Collection because [the] Gears Collection has cost me a lot to corroborate its existence, but it seems that it exists, and I can confirm that at the moment in which Gears Collection is announced, which I don’t know when it will be, but it will be announced as multiplatform day one,” said eXtas1s (translated by ResetEra).

“I repeat again. When these kinds of remasters are announced, remasters of the old Gears games are going to be able to be cross-platform [allowing players to] play simultaneously. The only thing I haven’t been able to confirm is the launch of a Switch version, but it can be played cross-platform on PC, Xbox and PlayStation,” they added.

In related news, Gears of War: E-Day, the next mainline chapter in the series, is being co-developed by The Coalition and People Can Fly, the studio that previously assisted in the development of the original trilogy as well as developed its own games, namely Painkiller and Outriders. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is also reportedly in the works for PS5, though we have yet to hear anything about it from Xbox.
