A new report claims that the Gears of War Collection will be released this August for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The collection will be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June as a multi-platform game. However, there’s a catch.
According to sources, the Gears of War Collection will not ship with the acclaimed multiplayer mode across any of the games. Rumours claim that the collection will only include the first three games in the series and earmark the “original trilogy”. This means even the most recent Gear of War 5 PvP mode, which has been supported with loads of content updates and seasonal drops, won’t be tacked onto the package.
Instead, Microsoft is reportedly focusing on a campaign-driven experience only for the Gears of War Collection. Meaning you’ll be able to play through all the campaigns across all the games in single-player and co-op.
As it stands, the Gears of War Collection will include all the original three games in the series, including Gears of War: Judgement. However, Gears of War Tactics won’t be part of the package. Neither will Gears of War 4 or Gears 5.
So the “collection” right now is seemingly based on the original Xbox 360 games. Who knows? If the collection proves to be a success, perhaps we’ll get the other games sometime in the future too?
The report also says that the upcoming Gears of War E-Day has been delayed to 2026. While Microsoft originally slotted the game into this year’s release calendar, the report says the company is shifting it to next year as it stands. It will then use the Gears of War Collection as a major title release in 2025.
All of this news comes from the same source that correctly reported on the Forza Horizon 5 PS5 port before it was announced. He also accurately leaked the Tony Hawk’s 3 + 4 game, which was announced earlier this week. This is also not the first time we have covered the Gears of War Collection. The game has been in the rumour mill for a few months now.
The same source has also claimed that Microsoft is currently porting all Halo games to PS5 and will also debut that collection in the year ahead.
Windows Central reporter Jez Corden has backed up the “no PvP” claim of the leak saying that as far as he knows, the collection won’t include the PvP.
