GeForce RTX 2060 Announced With a January 2019 Release Date

Let’s face it, the current GeForce RTX range is more for the PC gaming enthusiasts that have a tonne of money to spend on a new GPU like the RTX 2070 and 2080 options. That’s why many PC gamers have been waiting for the GeForce RTX 2060. At CES 2019, NVIDIA officially unveiled the GeForce RTX 2060. Best of all is the surprisingly quick release date of 15 January 2019 and although a local release date is yet to be confirmed, we haven’t waited long (if at all) in the past.

Based on the Turing architecture and filled with features such as AI enhanced graphics and, of course, real-time Ray Tracing, the GeForce RTX 2060 looks promising. Early previews of the Founder’s Edition puts the GPU’s performance in line with the GTX 1070 Ti and it manages to beat the GTX 1070, which means the GPU should be a worthy upgrade for those currently using a GTX 1050 or GTX 1060 3GB GPU.

The GeForce RTX 2060 will obviously be available from a variety of tech brands such as MSI, ASUS, Palit and more. The Founder’s Edition will set you back $349 and at the time of writing, local pricing has not been confirmed just yet. Specifications for different tech brands will be a bit different in terms of clock speed when you look at overclocked options, but the base specifications such as Cores and VRAM will remain the same across the board.

The GeForce RTX 2060 Founder’s Edition specifications are:

  • Cuda Cores: 1920
  • RTX-OPS: 37T
  • Giga Rays/s: 5
  • Boost Clock: 1680 MHz
  • Base Clock: 1365 MHZ
  • Memory Speed: 14 Gbps
  • Standard Memory Config: 6 GB DDR6
  • Memory Interface Width: 192-bit
  • Memory Bandwidth: 336 GB/s

At the time of writing, local pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed, but we normally don’t wait long for new NVIDIA GPUs to arrive on South African shores. As always, we will compile a full SA price list for the GeForce RTX 2060 options when they become available.
