Ghost of Tsushima: Legends

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Gets Standalone PS4 and PS5 Release and Free Mode

Sucker Punch Productions is launching a standalone version of the awesome Ghost of Tsushima: Legends today. For those who don’t know, Legends is the multiplayer component of Ghost of Tsushima where players enter the fantasy Oni realm and slice up monsters with friends. The mode launched back in late 2020 and has been a hit ever since. The standalone version means players who don’t want to purchase the full Ghost of Tsushima, with the single-player campaign starring Jin Sakai, can buy this Legends mode and play co-op.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends boasts a handful of game modes and cross-play across PS4 and PS5. There is the story mode with two-player support, survival with 4-player co-op and even a challenging Raid mode with 4-player support. However, Sucker Punch Productions is also launching the Rivals mode today that revolves around PvPvE mechanics. The studio is also releasing new Survival maps and a new Raid difficulty every week this month.

Horizon Forbidden West Game Version Locks To What You Buy

If you have played Gambit in Destiny 2 then this Rivals mode will sound very similar. Two teams of two compete to defeat waves of enemies. As enemies die they drop Magatama that players can collect. This resource is used to harm the other team. Players can purchase a range of items and debuffs that are sent over to the other team and cause them harm. Shades block the team from purchasing items, Curses drain health, deal damage and blow up corpses and Hwacha fires arrows at them.

Once players spend enough Magatama traumatising their opponents the game enters the “Final Stand” wave. Here players need to defeat enemies as fast as possible. The team to spend the Magatama and end the Final Stand wave then wins the game.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is also getting a Gear Mastery system today. Sucker Punch Productions describes the system as:

This is a new expansion of the progression systems and rewards for Legends. Players who’ve earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate “Mastery Challenges.” This will allow a piece of gear’s Ki level to be upgraded to 120 and eventually unlock a second perk slot! As you activate Mastery Challenges, you can also unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class.

So you can dive into the new modes and systems if you already own Ghost of Tsushima. However, if you are new to the game you can purchase the standalone mode on the PlayStation Store for R359 /  $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 on both PS4 and PS5. Players can then upgrade to the full Ghost of Tsushima game at a discounted rate too.
