Ghost of Yotei Ghost of Tsushima Sequel 2025 First Details Sucker Punch

Ghost of Yotei Announced For 2025 – First Details Revealed

Sucker Punch Productions has officially announced Ghost of Yotei, the long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, for 2025. The announcement was made during last night’s PlayStation State of Play event where it closed off the show. The first details on the anticipated follow-up have also been revealed including the new protagonist, historical time period and more.

Ghost of Yotei will feature a new female protagonist named Atsu. Set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima in the year 1603, the story revoles around a new region in Japan set in the lands surrounding Mt Yotei (otherwise known as Hokkaido in the present). Sucker Punch Productions promises that the follow-up will include new mechanics, gameplay improvements and new weapons for players to try out.

Considering that Jin Sakai’s story was completed in Ghost of Tsushima, it makes sense to set the follow-up in a different time period with a new main character. We know little about Atsu other than she’s a wandering ronin, though there will be new dangers present in the beautiful lands. Like its predecessor, Ghost of Yotei will feature sprawling grasslands and snowy tundras thanks to the looming Mt Yotei at the heart of the location.

Sucker Punch explained in a recent PlayStation blog post:

“While we aren’t diving into story specifics yet today, we can reveal that Atsu’s journey takes place in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. Our story is set in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a towering peak in the heart of Ezo, an area of Japan known as Hokkaido in present day. In 1603, this area was outside the rule of Japan, and filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers. It’s a far cry from the organized samurai clans who lived in Tsushima, and it’s the setting for an original story we can’t wait to tell.”

Sucker Punch Productions revealed that the game is currently set to release sometime in 2025, though didn’t provide a concrete release date yet. Fans speculate that it could target a late 2025 date as PlayStation’s flagship holiday release for next year.

The reveal trailer for Ghost of Yotei showcased brief glimpses of gameplay as Atsu rode through serene locations, villages and dangerous tundras on horseback. We also got a brief look at the animal companions that you can possibly befriend in the game, such as a wolf, suggesting they might have a role to play in combat as well.

Ghost of Yotei is currently in development exclusively for PS5 and set to release in 2025. Watch the full reveal trailer below:
