The battle for game clients continues in 2019 and the latest victim is Ubisoft’s upcoming shooter. Don’t bank on a Ghost Recon Breakpoint Steam release as it is not going to happen. Ubisoft has announced that the game will not be heading to Steam when it releases on 4 October 2019, rather it will be released on the Uplay client and the Epic Games Store.
The good news is that it is not an Epic Games Exclusive. The bad news is there is no Steam release planned for the game at all. Not even a timed rollout. The news comes from PCGamesN. Ubisoft will not repeat the same process with Breakpoint that they did with The Divison 2 and Anno 1800 both of which released on Steam as pre-orders and after which, were taken off Steam in favour for the Epic Games Store and the Uplay client.

Ubisoft’s decision to stick to their own client and the Epic Games Store is an obvious one given Epic’s smaller cut on hosted games compared to Valve. If you are planning on picking up Ghost Recon: Breakpoint on PC then you will need to choose to either stick to the Uplay Store or the Epic Game Store. As it is a co-op game, it will make use of Ubisoft’s in-game Uplay system so you don’t need to worry about losing friends to play with as long as you have them on your account.
