The first official trailer for the upcoming movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, has been released. The sequel will be a continuation of 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which essentially passed the torch onto a new generation. The upcoming sequel, which was announced by Sony last year, is taking a decidedly different approach as a new ghostly threat hits New York City with an apocalyptic and chilling punch.
The trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire shows the young team adjusting to life as the newly appointed protectors against supernatural threats. However, apocalyptic clouds suddenly hit the city, causing everyone to instantly freeze with the atmospheric changes. Of course, something strange (or supernatural) could be behind the disastrous event so it’s up to the new team to join forces with the old team in order to stop the looming danger.

The official plot synopsis for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire reads:
“In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”
Fans have already drawn the obvious plot comparisons to the 2004 disaster movie, The Day After Tomorrow, which also focused on an apocalyptic second Ice Age that hits the world.
The sequel will once again star Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard with returning actors from the original Ghostbusters movies such as Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson. Other cast members include Carrie Coon, Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani and Celeste O’Connor.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is set to arrive in cinemas on 29 March 2024. Check out the first trailer below:
