Ghostwire: Tokyo Looks Crazy in New PS5 Extended Gameplay

Ghostwire: Tokyo, the upcoming open-world action-adventure game from The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks and publisher Bethesda, has received brand new PS5 gameplay as well as a confirmed release date of 25 March 2022. Along with the gameplay, we also got plenty of story details.

Ghostwire: Tokyo takes place in Japan’s bustling titular city that has been ravaged by vengeful spirits called Visitors. Assuming the role of Akito, players harness the powers of the supernatural being KK to execute spell-based attacks on the evil spirits in order to cleanse Tokyo of its new, demented inhabitants.

The PS5 gameplay walks us through some sections of Ghostwire: Tokyo, including encountering various nightmarish foes. Players will use various upgradable spells and supernatural abilities to break down evil spirits and execute them by pulling out their core in a process called Ethereal Weaving. In addition to your jutsu-based spells, you’ll also have a bow equipped for the stealthier approach.

Since Ghostwire: Tokyo is an open-world game at heart, players will need to locate and cleanse shrine gates scattered around the city. These shrine gates will act as fast travel points as well as unveil more unique points of interest on the map.

Akito will be customizable too, not just in various skill trees where you can optimize your ideal spell-based build, but also in his appearance. Players will be given several gameplay options, whether you’re a fan of the stealthy approach or simply want to walk into a room and demolish spirits with an onslaught of powerful magical attacks called weaves.

Weaving comes in three elements: wind, which fires rapid short bursts like a handgun; water, which is your shotgun-styled attack that blasts enemies back at short range with heavy damage; and finally there’s fire, which is compared to a rocket launcher in that it launches powerful blasts with serious knockback effects.

Ghostwire: Tokyo releases on 25 March 2022 for PS5 and PC. Watch the full PS5 gameplay showcase below.
