Tango Gameworks and Bethesda are set to unveil a brand new gameplay showcase of their upcoming PS5 and PC action-horror game Ghostwire: Tokyo. The stream is live right now (below), with a release date already prematurely revealed by PlayStation.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is set to receive a gameplay showcase soon where some new details will be revealed, along with a confirmed release date. However, PlayStation may have already let that slip as they’ve listed a release date of 25 March, 2022 in the stream’s description, perhaps a bit earlier than expected.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is an upcoming action-horror title from The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks and publisher Bethesda. The game is set in Tokyo following a strange supernatural event that unleashes several Japanese urban legends and mythical creatures called Yokai on the city. Players assume the role of a hunter who uses magical combat to eradicate the invaders and save the population.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown via the game’s official description:
- Face The Unknown, Uncover The Truth And Save The City – Tokyo is overrun by deadly supernatural forces, perpetrated by a dangerous occultist, causing Tokyo’s population to vanish in an instant. Ally with a powerful spectral entity on their quest for vengeance and master a powerful arsenal of abilities to unravel the dark truth behind the disappearance as you FACE THE UNKNOWN in Ghostwire: Tokyo.
- A Beautifully Haunted Tokyo – Explore a unique vision of Tokyo twisted by a supernatural presence. From its ultra-modern cityscape to its traditional temples and narrow alleyways, discover a hauntingly beautiful city teeming with Yokai – vengeful spirits that prowl the streets. Discover iconic landmarks like Shibuya Crossing and Tokyo Tower, frozen in time when the city’s population disappeared and travel to the surreal underworld on your quest to save your family.
- Next-Gen Immersion – With the power and speed of the PlayStation®5 console, Tango Gameworks forges a beautiful, supernatural version of modern Tokyo.
- Devastating Elemental Abilities – Wield a combination of upgradeable elemental powers and ghost-hunting skills to combat the supernatural threat.
First unveiled in 2019 during Bethesda’s E3 showcase, the game was originally led by creative director Ikumi Nakamura before she resigned from the studio. Producer Shinji Mikami, best known for creating Resident Evil and The Evil Within, will oversee Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Due to Sony’s previous exclusivity agreement with Bethesda, Ghostwire: Tokyo will remain a timed PS5 console exclusive for a year before heading to Xbox, despite Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda and all its subsidiary developers. It will also release on PC alongside PS5.
The Ghostwire: Tokyo gameplay showcase event kicks off at midnight SAST on 4 February. You can watch the livestream embedded below.
