God of War 20th Anniversary Event Won’t Have New Announcements

Sony is set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its acclaimed God of War franchise with an exhibition being put together by developer Santa Monica Studio and Gallery Nucleus. However, there won’t be any new announcements during the festivities.

“With such a stellar lineup and all the anticipation we’ve seen around the anniversary, we do want to be clear that there are no planned announcements for this event,” said Santa Monica Studio on X regarding the upcoming 20th anniversary of God of War.

Fans initially suspected that Sony and Santa Monica Studio might have an announcement planned for the franchise’s 20th anniversary. Last month, reports surfaced from insider Jeff Grubb about a potential remaster being announced for the 20th anniversary which would either be 2018’s God of War, the original Greek saga or a remaster of the very first game released in 2005. It doesn’t seem like we’ll be getting this announcement at the annniverary event.

As for the exhibition, it will run from 15-23 March with a panel of the cast and devs taking place on the 15th and 22nd. Attendees will be able to get their hands on limited edition prints, Phantasy Arcade Cabinets, God of War-themed donuts from Moonbridge and a Kratos beach towel.

Santa Monica Studio hasn’t announced its next game yet but there’s plenty of speculation online about what it could be. 2018’s God of War director Cory Barlog stepped down as game director for its sequel, God of War Ragnarok, leading some to believe that his attention was on a new game he had quietly been working on. While he still served as a creative director on Ragnarok, the game director position was filled by Eric Williams.

Sony’s other major first-party studio, Naughty Dog, recently spilled new details about its upcoming sci-fi game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Unfortunately, the game is still far off from release.
