God of War Ragnarok developer Santa Monica Studio has reiterated that the upcoming anticipated game will still release in 2022. This is likely to put to rest concerns about it being delayed yet again, with some speculation stating that it will get pushed into 2023.
Santa Monica Studio’s social and community manager BlueOwlzMedic (Twitter name) revealed that the developers still plan to release God of War Ragnarok sometime this year. The game was previously delayed from its original 2021 release window into 2022.

God of War Ragnarok was first unveiled at a PlayStation Showcase event in 2020 following the PS5’s official hardware reveal. A direct sequel to 2018’s God of War which pits Kratos in Norse mythology alongside his son Atreus, God of War Ragnarok will conclude the Norse saga as a two-part epic instead of the usual trilogy.
What prompted Santa Monica Studio’s community manager to reassure fans that the game will still release in 2022 is anyone’s guess, though other AAA games have faced quite a few delays (notably Forspoken and Saints Row), so it’s probably to quell any concerns.
That said, God of War Ragnarok remains one of the year’s most anticipated releases and possibly the biggest PlayStation exclusive of 2022. At this point, it’s hard to say when the studio plans to release the game, but some believe it will drop towards the later end of the year.
Just recently, reports surfaced of Sony hosting a big PlayStation Showcase this week. The focus of the event will presumably be on their Game Pass competitor Project Spartacus, as well as a full presentation on the PSVR 2. However, it might give some room for God of War Ragnarok to finally announce a release date.
God of War Ragnarok is currently in development for PS4 and PS5.
