Sony is reportedly planning DLC for its award-winning 2022 action-adventure title, God of War Ragnarok. The sequel, much like its 2018 predecessor, tells a complete story and concludes the two-part Norse saga of Kratos and Atreus’ journey. However, it also leaves an open-ended journey for one particular character that could pave the way for potential DLC as it explores the afterstory of the game’s events.
The report originates from prominent leaker The Snitch, who has been mostly accurate in their past leaks. According to the leaker, Sony is currently working on God of War Ragnarok DLC though didn’t elaborate much on it. Fans questioned the legitimacy of this claim as developer Santa Monica Studio didn’t include DLC for 2018’s God of War, though the ending of Ragnarok might be a good enough reason to explore the narrative further with an expansion or new story content.

Before we proceed, we will be discussing major spoilers for the ending of God of War Ragnarok so you have been warned.
At the end of Ragnarok, following the battle of Asgard, Kratos stays behind in Midgard to look over the realm with Freya while Atreus seemingly sets off on a globe-trotting journey to find the remaining Giants. DLC coud potentially focus on Atreus’ adventures outside of Norse mythology and act as a bridge to the next God of War game, which might already be in development according to recent job listings.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Sony used DLC or an expansion to link a game to its sequel. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was a bridge to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 while it’s believed that Horizon Forbidden West‘s DLC, Burning Shores, sets up the third game.
As with all rumours and reports, take this with a grain of salt for now.
God of War Ragnarok is currently available for PS4 and PS5.
