God of War Ragnarok Early Hands-On Impressions

God of War Ragnarok Features Five Difficulty Settings

The upcoming God of War Ragnarok will offer players five difficulty settings to choose from when jumping into the game on 9 November. Santa Monica Studios confirmed the various options on the studio’s official Discord channel. Game director Eric Williams said in a live Q&A that the options will vary depending on your playstyle. In addition, players can change their God of War Ragnarok difficulty at any given time.

The five modes include the following:

God of War Ragnarok Difficulty Options

  • Give Me Balance – This will give a balanced experience similar to God of War 2018.
  • Give Me Story –  The same as the Give Me Story mode in 2018
  • Give Me Grace –  Something in between Story and Balance.
  • Give Me No Mercy – Similar to Give Me a Challenge setting from GOW 2018
  • Give Me God of War – The hardest difficulty setting in the game.

Eric Williams also confirmed that players can switch between all difficulties at any given time. In the God of War 2018 release, players who chose Give Me God of War weren’t able to adjust this after the game started. You would have to start from scratch again if you weren’t enjoying the toughest difficulty in the game.

Williams also confirmed that unlike the Give Me God of War difficulty in the 2018 game, the challenge will slowly ramp up for players in God of War Ragnarok. In the 2018 game, even the first combat encounter was incredibly tough to overcome resulting in players giving up. It also didn’t help that you had no decent equipment to use either. In God of War Ragnarok, the early parts of the game are a lot more forgiving on the toughest difficulty.

God of War Ragnarok is set to launch on 9 November. Be sure to stick around for our full review later this week. Be warned that the game has also leaked early so avoid spoilers online until you have finished it yourself.
