God of War Ragnarok Gets Official Story Synopsis

God of War Ragnarok is a few months away from launch. PlayStation and developer Sony Santa Monica Studio recently confirmed a release date with a short cinematic trailer, but fans are still left in the dark about what we can expect in the sequel’s story. It looks like we finally have an official story synopsis that gives us an insight into the Nine Realms and some surprises.

Before we proceed, we know that many fans would rather go in blind and not have any information whatsoever about the story. That said, treat this as a minor spoiler warning in case you still want to keep the first playthrough fresh and without any details about the world and what could potentially happen before the apocalyptic events of Ragnarok.

As revealed on the PlayStation Store, God of War Ragnarok now has a full-length story synopsis that sheds light on the locations we’ll be travelling to as well as the events we’ll be encountering in the game:

“From Santa Monica Studio comes the sequel to the critically acclaimed God of War (2018). Fimbulwinter is well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world.

Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. The threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer. Kratos and Atreus must choose between their own safety and the safety of the realms.”

As many suspected, God of War Ragnarok will feature all Nine Realms – something that fans have been asking for since 2018’s God of War which only gave us a handful of those realms to explore. The game is already teasing clashes with some Norse gods, particularly Thor, so it will be interesting to see how this factors into the large-scaled events of Ragnarok.

God of War Ragnarok releases on 9 November 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
