A half-sequel or DLC for Sony’s award-winning 2022 action-adventure game, God of War Ragnarok, is reportedly in development accordnig to a leaker. The idea of a “half-sequel” is something that Sony has geared towards since the releases of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, though now it looks like the God of War franchise might receive one as well to make the wait for the next mainline entry a little less gruelling.
The rumour originates from leaker ViewerAnon, who has a decent track record of accurate video game and movie leaks. According to the leaker, Sony Santa Monica Studio is working on a half-sequel or DLC for God of War Ragnarok. More accurately, the leaker says that Santa Monica Studio is working on “new God of War stuff” and wonders if it’s tied to Ragnarok, which is a good possibility.

Without spoiling anything, the ending for God of War Ragnarok left the door open for a story continuation, specifically for a certain character, while giving other characters solid resolutions. A half-sequel could potentially give us the follow-up to a character’s ongoing journey and goals while closing the gap between new releases in the franchise.
IGN's bang-on here – this is how you cut the gap between releases while also maybe letting greener teams work on the half-sequel with established tools and support. Santa Monica Studio's working on new GOD OF WAR stuff and I wonder whether it will be RAGNAROK DLC or a half-sequel https://t.co/MxXUyNUvKT

This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard about potential DLC for God of War Ragnarok. Back in August, prominent leaker The Snitch claimed that Sony was working on DLC for the game too, though didn’t elaborate much on it. A previous job listing from the developer was also seeking a combat designer for its next title, which many fans believe could be related to the next God of War.
As with all rumours and reports, take this with a pinch of salt until we get confirmation from PlayStation. It’s unknown what Santa Monica Studio are currently working on for its next project but given the great commercial success of Ragnarok, we’re certain that there are plans for more God of War games in the pipeline.
