God of War Ragnarok Might Appear at August PlayStation Event

Tonight, PlayStation will host their next State of Play showcase, primarily dedicated to Arkane Studios’ upcoming first-person shooter, Deathloop, and a handful of indie and third-party titles. PlayStation has warned fans not to expect any updates on big exclusives like God of War Ragnarok or Horizon Forbidden West; the latter of which is still slated to release in late 2021. However, that might all change as a new big PlayStation event next month is expected to deliver updates on their anticipated first-party games, including the next God of War.

The source in question comes from Reddit user QuimSix. While we often avoid any leaks that come out of Reddit without proper backing, it’s worth noting that QuimSix has more or less been accurate about most PlayStation event leaks in the past, so there might be a sliver of credibility here. Nonetheless, the user claims that PlayStation is set to host a bigger event in August that will primarily focus on their exclusives, including a new trailer for God of War Ragnarok. Not much else is known about this supposed big event, though it’s likely we’ll also finally get a release date update for Horizon Forbidden West at this showcase. The user’s statement reads:

The same source that said the next state of play is planned for July 8 also said that there will be a new GOW Ragnarok trailer in August and also HFW updates (release date and more trailers). He doesn’t know the exact dates but I will update this post once I know them.

As with all rumours, take this with a massive grain of salt for now until we get an official announcement from PlayStation themselves. However, the company seems to be focused right now on delivering tonight’s State of Play, and it’s unlikely we’ll hear about this exclusive showcase until August.

If this rumour turns out to be accurate, we can probably expect new game announcements too from Sony’s expansive line-up of first-party studios. Among some of the games on everyone’s wishlist, Square Enix have yet to really dive into Final Fantasy XVI, so we’re hoping to hear more about this PS5 console exclusive too. There’s also been little news surrounding Tango Gameworks’ new horror-themed action/adventure game Ghostwire Tokyo, which might break their silence at this event. Finally, there’s also the lingering question of what studios like Bluepoint Games and Kojima Productions have been up to. Let’s hope that we’ll hear more about these fairly soon.
