God of War Ragnarok Early Hands-On Impressions

God of War Ragnarok Studio Working on Multiple Projects

God of War Ragnarok developer Santa Monica Studio is currently working on multiple projects. This is according to 2018’s God of War director Cory Barlog, who recently spoke to Los Angeles Times about the studio’s latest game and what it might be cooking next, including a secret game that’s apparently been in the works for a few years now.

Barlog spoke to Los Angeles Times in a recent interview, discussing God of War Ragnarok and Santa Monica Studio alongside Eric Williams, who served as the director on the latest title. Barlog stated that Santa Monica Studio is spread out on “a lot of different things” at the moment. One secretive project has actually been in development for “many years” now, which could be a new IP altogether. This may also be linked to Barlog’s rumoured next game..

Williams, on the other hand, remains dedicated to the God of War franchise and says Santa Monica Studio probably won’t slow down on it anytime soon, stating:

“I remember talking to someone from another game company, where they were trying to get me to leave. They said, ‘Do you just want to be known as the God of War guy for the rest of your life?’ That was your big pitch to dissuade me? Because yes, I kind of do.”

This makes sense as God of War Ragnarok turned out to be one of Sony’s biggest exclusive launches yet, both critically and commercially, and we don’t think PlayStation would just let its staple action franchise end there.

We’ll likely see more God of War games in the distant future as long as Williams, Barlog and Santa Monica Studio remain committed to the series. As for where the franchise could go next, the popular fan theory is Egypt. We’ll just have to wait and see.

God of War Ragnarok is now available for PS4 and PS5.
