Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has officially been announced, serving as a direct sequel to 2021’s blockbuster movie, Godzilla vs. Kong. The first teaser trailer was released yesterday which shows a menacing new apex predator that Godzilla and Kong will have to battle. It’s currently set to release in cinemas on 15 March 2024.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the next chapter in Legendary Picture’s Monsterverse. Set some time after the events of the last movie, Godzilla and Kong now have to team up to take down a new big bad with glowing blue eyes and a primate-like appearance that threatens to topple the monster hierarchy. The teaser trailer shows the new apex sitting on a throne as it overlooks a field of monster bones, zooming out to reveal Godzilla and Kong’s radioactive skulls.

Of course, the primate design of the new villain suggests that it could be related to Kong’s lineage. Godzilla vs. Kong revealed that there used to be more of Godzilla and Kong’s species long ago that waged war in Hollow Earth. The mysterious apex predator might be a relative of Kong and possibly linked to this secret monster war beneath Earth’s surface. It’s speculated that the monster sees Godzilla and Kong’s mutual respect for one another as blasphemy.
The synopsis attached to the teaser trailer reads:
“This latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence–and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
The talent behind the movie includes director Adam Wingard who will once again return to direct the sequel after Godzilla vs. Kong. It will also star Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Bryan Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns and Rachel House.
