Google Shares Redesigned Search Engine With Heavy AI Focus

Google has announced its plans to turn AI into a search-driven feature on its platforms. The company shared details regarding this change during its IO event where it showcased AI Overviews. This functionality will now take over the previously known Search Generative Experience (SGE) in the US and around the world in the future.

Essentially speaking, AI Overviews will feature AI-generated summaries at the top of every search result and help guide users accordingly. But that isn’t the only change Google is making in the AI field. The company wants to take the “chore” out of Google searching by eliminating the hard work involved in the process.

Google says the company wants users to focus on the “part of exploring you find exciting” and using AI is how it aims to do that. AI Overviews are one part of this. These snippets will provide the answers to your questions and searches alongside links to resources where this information has been pulled.

Google also shared new information on the Lens feature that lets users search for content by capturing a video. There’s also a new planning tool which automatically generates information to help you with your search query. For example, if you search for a weight loss program, the AI tool will automatically generate a meal plan.

Another example of this planning tool shows different restaurants depending on your type of meet-up. So the best places for date nights, meetings etc.

All of this is powered by Google’s Gemini AI features. As a result, the platform will figure out what you’re asking and how you’re asking it. Whether you’re typing, speaking, taking an image or shooting a video of your query.

Google released a video showcasing all these fancy AI features.
