Nomination for the 2025 Grammy Awards have officially been announced including the nominees for Best Video Game Soundtrack. 2025 marks the third year since the new category was introduced to the Grammys, beginning in 2023. The list of nominees in this round include heavy-hitters like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, though there seems to be a notable absence of a few contenders like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Final Fantasy XVI.
The Grammy nominations for Best Video Game Soundtrack and Other Interactive Media this year include Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars Outlaws and Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. Bear McCreary has received his third nomination in a row, previously being nominated for Call of Duty: Vanguard and God of War Ragnarok.
The first time the category was introduced to the Grammys in 2023, the inaugural winner was Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok. Other nominees that year included Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Old World. In 2024, the award was won by Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, beating God of War Ragnarok, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Hogwarts Legacy and Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical.
The Grammys state that the Best Video Game Soundtrack award “recognises excellence in score soundtrack albums comprised predominately of original scores and created specifically for, or as a companion to, a current video game or other interactive media released within the qualification period.”
In related news, the video game industry is set to kick off The Game Awards this December which covers all major video games released throughout 2024.
