A media event for Gran Turismo 7 was reportedly cancelled at the last minute, leading many to believe that another delay might be coming from PlayStation and developer Polyphony Digital. According to renowned leaker Tom Henderson, no explanation was given for the media event being cancelled and pushed back, though some believe that the game will inevitably be delayed due to unknown circumstances.
Henderson recently revealed that a media event that was supposed to take place for Gran Turismo 7 was apparently cancelled at the last minute. He goes on to state that it’s a tad bit concerning since the game is expected to launch on 4 March. PlayStation haven’t offered any explanation for the delayed media event yet, but we’ll likely hear about a release date delay soon if that’s the reason.

PlayStation is set to have a crowded early 2022 already. Horizon Forbidden West releases on 18 February, while Gran Turismo 7 is expected to drop on 4 March. Later in March, Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire Tokyo, which had its release date leaked on the PlayStation Store, is reportedly expected to launch on 24 March. Square Enix’s Forspoken will release on 24 May. It’s possible that PlayStation may choose to delay Gran Turismo 7 slightly to April in order to space out their major releases. Take all of this speculation with a grain of salt for now.
The Gran Turismo series is no stranger to delays, as previous entries have a history of pushbacks, sometimes bleeding into years. Gran Turismo 7 was planned to be released in 2015 already, but Polyphony chose to fill the gap in with Gran Turismo Sport instead. Gran Turismo 6 received a few delays before landing on a concrete release date.
According to Henderson, Sony pulled off something similar when a media event for The Last of Us Part II was cancelled at the last minute too, which was followed up by the game being delayed. It might not be the same case for Gran Turismo 7, though we’ll have to keep an eye on it.
Gran Turismo 7 launches on 4 March 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
