Gran Turismo Movie First Look Revealed in Latest Teaser

The first teaser for the upcoming live-action Gran Turismo movie from Sony Pictures and director Neill Blomkamp has been revealed. Sony debuted the first footage of the movie during the company’s CES 2023 press conference, showcasing a behind the scenes look at the racing with stars Orlando Bloom and David Harbour presenting the sneak peek.

The Gran Turismo movie is based on the true story of the GT Academy contest which ran between 2008 and 2016, where winners were given a place in the Nissan’s Driver Development Programme. The plot will follow the real-life success story of UK racer Jann Mardenborough, who won in 2011 and went on to compete in the GP3 Series, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Japanese Super GT series.

Sony presented the first look at the upcoming Gran Turismo movie during CES 2023 which revealed some of the actors, locations, cars and tracks. Director Neill Blomkamp – best known for District 9, Elysium and Chappie – also took the stage to briefly talk about the filming journey of the movie and how it’s aiming to be faithful to the PlayStation video game series while also being its own thing as a high-octane experience that, according to Bloom, really needs to be seen in cinemas.

The Gran Turismo movie is one of many live-action projects that Sony is producing based on its popular video game IPs. Netflix signed a deal with Sony to produce a live-action TV series based on Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn, while HBO is nearing the debut of The Last of Us TV series adaptation later this month. Amazon is also working on a live-action God of War TV series while the director behind John Wick is currently working on a Ghost of Tsushima movie.

The Gran Turismo movie arrives in cinemas on 11 August 2023. Check out the full teaser below.
