Earlier this weekend, rumours surfaced that Rockstar Games was planning on delaying the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 to 2026, out from its initially planned release window of 2025. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has claimed that these rumours are false and GTA 6 hasn’t actually been delayed, corroborating this information with multiple Rockstar employees.
“The internet (and my DMs) blew up this weekend over a rumour that GTA 6 is delayed,” wrote Jason Schreier on X. “Good news is that six Rockstar employees all told me they have not heard of any delay. Bad news: it’s a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive.”
While Schreier didn’t set the 2025 window in stone, there is always a possibility that GTA 6 could eventually be delayed. It’s quite a massive undertaking for Rockstar Games and arguably the most anticipated single video game release of all time, so there’s a lot of pressure to deliver.

Schreier provided a follow-up message clarifying his stance on the rumour:
“I want to be very clear: Six staff told me they weren’t *informed* of a delay. For all I know, Rockstar’s executive team could have decided months ago to delay GTA 6 without telling the company. But the lack of internal announcement suggests that the Twitter rumour was nonsense.”
Publisher Take-Two Interactive confirmed back in May that GTA 6 would release in fall 2025, meaning between September – November next year. The game is currently planned to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles first with a PC release planned for a later date.
