GTA 6 Lucia Jason Bonnie and Clyde

GTA 6 – How The Real Bonnie and Clyde Could Influence Lucia and Jason’s Story

Rockstar Games recently debuted the second trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, giving us more information about its dual protagonists, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. It’s fairly obvious that Rockstar’s writers are taking a few notes from the real-life criminal duo, Bonnie and Clyde, for Lucia and Jason’s story about criminal lovers. Let’s look at how the real Bonnie and Clyde’s story could influence the fate of the protagonists in GTA 6.

GTA 6 is once again set in Vice City, the familiar Florida-inspired setting that we previously visited with Tommy Vercetti and gang in the 1980s. Now set in modern day Vice City, we follow the journey of Lucia Caminos, who spends time in a correctional facility for unknown reasons. She is picked up by what we assume to be her boyfriend, Jason Duval. It’s clear that the duo hasn’t put the life of crime behind them, still seeking a better life even if it means stumbling back into the criminal underworld of Vice City to achieve those goals.

The Real Bonnie and Clyde

The real-life American outlaws, Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow, blazed a trail across Central United States between 1932 and 1934. The criminal couple and their gang, the Barrow Gang, committed a series of crimes such as bank robberies, kidnappings and murders (known to have killed at least nine police offers and four civilians). However, they were also known to mainly target small stores and rural gas stations (sound familiar?).

Bonnie and Clyde would meet their end in a grisly ambush by the police in May 1934.

Their notoriety gained them attention in the mainstream media at the time and well after the fact too, as their tale would later be adapted into multiple movies and inspire various stories in entertainment (case in point, Honey Bunny and Pumpkin from Pulp Fiction or the 1994 movie Natural Born Killers).

The Fictional Lucia and Jason

While Lucia and Jason’s story probably won’t follow a similar trajectory to the real-life Bonnie and Clyde, the influence is definitely in place. If reports are to be believed, Bonnie and Clyde were a couple that also had their quarrels and disagreements. In order to create a bit of tension between the couple, it’s likely that Lucia and Jason’s life won’t be all sunshine and peaches as many events, especially in the line of crime, could drive an emotional wrench between them.

There are ways that GTA 6 could stress that point. For instance, either one of them could be an undercover cop – it’s a bit cliched but it would make sense within the context of the story, at least. Alternatively, maybe Jason could’ve struck a deal with the police while Lucia was in prison. By not telling her that, you could see how it might build quite a bit of tension and emotional turmoil between them.

Whatever secrets Lucia and Jason might have, it’s bound to create interesting problems in the narrative. There are a lot of directions that Rockstar Games could go with the Bonnie and Clyde dynamic – sticking with the tragic Bonnie and Clyde ending is also a possibility, or it could pull A Way Out and have players kill their partner in the end. Or Lucia and Jason ride off into the sunset together.

GTA 6 launches on 26 May 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
