Grand Theft Auto 6, among many other future Rockstar Games titles, will apparently not be quite as edgy or funny as previous entries in the series. This comes from Rockstar Games co-founder Jamie King who weighed in on the future of the developer’s releases, which also encompasses GTA 6 and other projects apparently in the works.
During an interview with Killaz, King spoke about how the company will apparently handle future gaming releases, though notes that they might receive a notable shift in tone. This might mean altering or removing the more edgier elements of Grand Theft Auto and several other games from Rockstar.

King reiterated that there won’t be any significant changes to the gameplay, but culturally, said “there’s a difference” due to the various departures at the studio:
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the tone starts changing. And if it’s maybe not quite as edgy or quite as funny. I just think maybe there’s more opportunity for them to do something cheesy, cause they never do. Maybe not. There’s a beautiful machine there that you’d have to try real hard to f**k up.”
The Grand Theft Auto series is known for having quite a sharp satirical bite to them, which is cleverly masked by “edgy” or otherwise funny commentary. King doesn’t outright confirm that he’s talking about GTA 6, but it’s easy to make the links to what he might be referring to. The co-founder suggests the company will instead tackle comedy that might be more cheesy instead of edgy, which could tease a new identity that GTA 6 will embrace.
Meanwhile, Rockstar Games have been working on bringing GTA V to new generation consoles with yet another re-release.
