GTA 6 Release Date Officially Announced – Delayed to 2026

Developer Rockstar Games has officially announced a release date for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, though it also comes with a delay. The game was initially expected to launch by fall 2025 with publisher Take-Two Interactive even doubling down on its release window. Now, Rockstar Games has posted an statement on social media confirming that GTA 6 will instead launch next year in May.

According to the statement posted on the official social media account for Rockstar Games, GTA 6 has been moved out of its fall 2025 release window and now has an official release date of 26 May 2026. No details were shared regarding the game’s platform availability, so it seems like it will still launch first on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The statement provided by Rockstar Games reads:

“Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this is later than expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game. We every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception.”

“We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” the statement concludes. “We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have been very quiet about any news or details regarding GTA 6 since its reveal trailer debuted in December 2023. Take-Two previously stated that Rockstar would be ready to share new information on the game only closer to its release. With the new release date in place, there’s a good chance we’ll only start hearing more about the game early next year as the launch gets closer.

GTA 6 now launches on 26 May 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
